Why the Name Proclamation?

We wanted a name that was simple, unique, and meaningful. Simple enough to be one word, unique to the area to avoid confusion, and a name that would focus on Christ and the gospel.  Here are four thoughts behind the name Proclamation.

1. It Points Us and Others to Christ

Jesus Christ is the One we proclaim, He is the head and foundation of the church, the One the church is built upon. Jesus is the one we glorify, magnify, praise and worship. We proclaim Him!

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” (Colossians 1:28)

2. It Reminds Us of Why We Exist

We have been made God's people so that we may proclaim his excellencies. As Pastor John Piper says, “God made us who we are to show the world who he is.” We aim to do this in all of life and with all our lives, not just our words. The way we live our lives proclaims something (what we value, worship, love, etc). May our lives give an outward indication of the truth and reality of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10)

3. It Provides Opportunities to Remember and Proclaim the Gospel

People may ask: why that name? What does Proclamation mean?

This provides the perfect opportunity for us to praise openly and publicly announce the good news.

"Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled." (Mark 5:19-20)

4. The Church is Built on the Word of God

Proclamation reminds us of the vitality of Word-centered ministry. The church is built on the incarnate Word, Jesus Christ, and God’s written Word, the Bible.

“If we want to see the Spirit of God at work, we must proclaim the word of God.” (Total Church, p32)
